KLI "Resident Fellowship Program”

The Resident Fellowship Program at the KLI offers individual fellowships for researchers in residence.  All projects are initiated by a proposal to the Scientific Director and to the Executive Manager of the KLI. Final decisions about acceptance are made by the KLI Board of Directors.

What are we looking for at the KLI?

We are happy to receive applications to our Resident Fellowship Program that fit the mission and vision of the institute.

We privilege projects that are theoretical and reflexive (including conceptual, epistemological, and historical projects) as well as interdisciplinary within the life, cognitive, and sustainability sciences as well as history, philosophy and social studies thereof.

The ideal KLI resident fellow should also have good communication and collaboration capacities as well as the creativity and willingness to contribute to the life of the institute.

All fellows are invited to participate in the activities of the KLI, such as the KLI Colloquia and the KLI Lab.

How can you apply for a Resident Fellowship at the KLI?

The application process includes the following steps:

  • Step 1: Contact the Scientific Director and Executive Manager.
  • Step 2: The scientific director assesses the suitability and quality of your application. If the scientific director’s assessment is positive, we request a more formal application and detailed project description by email.
  • Step 3: Your project proposal is sent for external review. If the referees’ assessment is positive, applicants may be invited for an interview to present their past research and planned project at the KLI. In case it is not possible for the applicant to visit, we will arrange an interview by teleconference.
  • Step 4: Based on the interview and the written proposal, the KLI Board of Directors will take a final decision to grant or reject your proposal.

KLI Board meetings are scheduled 3–4 times a year. Please allow at least 4–6 months for processing your application.

Rejection decisions by the scientific director and the KLI Board are final. There is no possibility to appeal this decision.

Currently, we have no open residency of fellowship positions. Applications will again be accepted as from June 2024.
