Martin Schmid is environmental historian with a background in history and archaeology, working on rivers, cities, wars and forests and how biology, society and culture are co-evolutionary intertwined in such phenomena over time. He is Associate Professor at the Institute of Social Ecology at BOKU University and also teaches at the University of Vienna, both historians and biologists. After his master and PhD, both in history from the University of Vienna, he got his habilitation in environmental history from Alpen-Adria Universität Klagenfurt, and has been affiliated to the Rachel Carson Center of LMU and Deutsches Museum in Munich, Germany. Martin says, spending autumn and winter 2024/25 as a guest fellow at KLI was one of the most inspiring and enjoyable experiences in his academic life so far.
